Alcaidesa
has
had a bumpy ride; since it's conception in circa 1986 it has been plagued
with recession, bad management, fraud and in-house mistrust.
Situated at the very end of the Costa del Sol with up to two hours drive
to Marbella Airport it was just that one stop too far for continental
European interest.
The construction of the last section of the E15, Spain's Coastal Highway,
and a new Hotel/ Resort complex by the German Karstadt Neckermann group
has changed the fortunes of Alcaidesa dramatically.
Alcaidesa has a mixture of “pueblo” style town houses and individual
villas by the beach their Architectural Control Committee ensures that
careful design maintains the aesthetic qualities and preservation of
traditional Andalusian architecture.
An additional area of 3.6 square kilometers which extends inland from the
main road, borders a nature reserve administered by the Regional Forestry
Board.
Alcaidesa Links Golf Course is situated at the very end of the "Costa del
Golf", only 8 miles from Gibraltar and very close to
Sotogrande (
Valderrama host to the 1997 Ryder Cup, The Club Real de Golf, Almenara, La
Reserva, La Cañada and a Golf Academy are all within 10 minutes) San Roque course is directly opposite. Alcaidesa was originally designed as a
Links Course by Peter Allis and Clive Clark. The design and layout of the
holes and fairways along the beach give you the sensation of playing a
Scottish Links Course, with the difference of the wonderful southern Spain
sub-tropical climate. Alcaidesa, as a quality golf course, which has
hosted three Spanish P.G.A. Professional Competitions since opening in the
summer of 1992, as well as being one of the host venues for The Junior
Match 1997.
The views of the Mediterranean Sea, Gibraltar and on a clear day the Atlas
Mountains of northern Africa across the Strait, are spectacular. Playing
at Alcaidesa is a unique experience that everyone wants to repeat.
